At 50 seconds, it would have had him going a crazy but "movie-style" 144 mph - basically a Harley Davidson at full throttle or sports car with the pedal floored.
I suspect the writer originally penned something a touch better - like two blocks later instead of miles - but, in classic Bronze Age fashion, "pushed" the description to SUPERHEROIC level and left reality a bit far behind...
