Can't See the Fortress for the Keys...

When I wrote the last post, I looked ahead for the next few from Action #251 to see if there were any more appearances of the small (or large) key to the Fortress of Solitude.  However, when I slowed down to actually read those stories, I found something rather amusing.  In Action #253, Superman cautions Jimmy Olsen:

Okay, Supes, mum's the word. Except, in Action #252, the issue published just one month before that panel:
DOH!

Superman once brought his fortress to Metropolis (something ONLY Wayne Boring could get away with illustrating), and conducted tours for charity. Batman once flew to the fortress and concealed himself inside the key in order to gain entry.

Kirk, as I commented years ago, the Fortress of Solitude was never really a place where Superman was often alone; Batman visited in that first issue, a million or so Kryptonians moved in the next issue, Lois Lane, Jimmy Olsen and a pair of con artists imitating Ma and Pa Kent, all visited it in the next year, and as you point out, most of Metropolis took a tour shortly after that.

And when Superman appeared to be junking (or giving up) the fortress in a conflict with some super-villain, Supergirl said, "The Fortress is just as much mine as it is yours!" His reply, as I recall was "BUTT OUT!" Of course, Superman was only doing this to fool the villain.

Kirk, Supergirl did the same thing to Superman on the cover of Action 336 (although it turned out to be a Bizarro Supergirl).

I love your posts, but I don't usually notice the titles - until this time. Well played.
